Well if targeted marketing is any indication… it’s almost Mother’s Day. I know Mother’s Day is tough for a lot of us, for a lot of reasons. If you’re missing your mother, wanting to be a mother, estranged from your mother, never knew your mother - if you’re in pain, I’m sending you a lot of love, and hope you’re able to find peace. You might want to skip this one.


As much as I love to be showered in gifts and praise, Mother’s Day feels like one of those OH FUCK holidays, as in Oh, fuck! I forgot it’s Mother’s Day! And then again, it’s tough to gift for, especially if the recipient is someone you deeply respect and admire who also has exquisite taste. So! I asked my mom, who is very fancy! You might remember her from this, this, and this. She has the best taste in non-obvious things, like, where to get the best spoon rest or garden snips. Little luxuries that only someone with a well-honed eye and zest for life would appreciate. Sometimes it’s best to just go to the source, am I right?

Ok, take it away, Mom:

Most moms don’t want flowers. They don’t really even want a gift. They want YOU. We want our children to remember us, and show us that we’re still a part of their amazing, busy, chaotic lives. Nothing makes us happier than to spend time with our kids. Get a hug from them. Hear that we didn’t screw up TOO badly as a parent. And…maybe also a sweet gift.
