Saturday Snack: Vintage Watches, Poplin Basics, Perfect Pants, SKIRTS!, and a Face Wash I loooooove
Little tidbits from around the internet.
Oooooh baby, this week! What a week. Things were quiet here at Earl Earl because IRL I had a lot going on. Next week, I also have something fun going on! I’m going to be at Madewell on Abbot Kinney on June 5 from 5-7 pm for “An Evening of Style” - PLEASE COME! If you live in LA! Here’s the link to RSVP and/or book a styling session with me.
Ok, so things were quiet, but not silent, here’s what we had on:
Yesterday I looked at how to dress for summer when you really prefer fall and winter clothes.
Todd Selby of The Selby and I had a very fun live hang, he has wild wild wild style and I dig it - he was also one of the original style bloggers in the 00’s, and is such a talented photographer and a very good friend and kind person. He’s a gem.
Last week, I wrote about the things my Fancy Mom wears instead of shorts. (We struggle with shorts)
AND! I put on all my favorite go-to wardrobe uniforms for when I need to get dressed quickly and don’t know what to wear. These are my fall-back looks.
There we are! And please!!! Mark your calendars and come see me at Madewell!
THIS GLORIOUS CLEANSER
I am a little bit of a face wash addict. I never turn down an opportunity to try a new one - I love the feeling of a clean face, I don’t treat it like a ritual exactly (LOL I HAVE TWO KIDS SKINCARE AS A RITUAL DOES NOT EXIST FOR ME!!!!!! SKINCARE IS A CHORE!) but washing my face really does send signals to my brain that it’s time to shut down. So anyway, I have all these cleansers, but the one I find myself reaching for almost every night is this one. It just does what it’s supposed to do! It’s gentle, but thorough. It doesn’t have any fragrance, doesn’t have anything harsh in it, it’s just like a straightforward face wash. It gets sunscreen off, and when I do wear makeup, it gets that off too. It doesn’t strip my skin, nor does it make it feel like there’s any residue. I got a sample to test out, and I’ve almost used all of it - which says a lot for me. I love this stuff. The Outset, $32
A GIGANTIC TOTE BAG
I love a big ass summer tote bag to lug all your shit to the beach! This one is very summery, is very classic, and isn’t insanely expensive. Reformation, $348
A TERRIFIC SUMMER SHOE CAPSULE

Three perfect shoes - dressy flats and one pair of heels. I could spend the next three months exclusively in these three pairs and be very, very happy.
AN EFFORTLESS SET
I love the simplicity of this, and that it comes as a set - a tonal cardigan and poplin skirt? Genius. Free People, $108
SPEAKING OF SKIRTS!!!!!!
I was browsing Tibi…as you do…and man these skirts are really doing it for me! I’m a sucker for anything that ties or drapes, especially if it looks like a button down shirt, so this blue one - oooooh baby. The other two are nylon, which I think is very very cool, especially with a jersey tee, or button down, or cotton knit sweater. I love the brown of the full skirt, but really, really am nuts for the green of the pleated skirt.
WATCHES

Sometimes I get a little watch bug, and I think I NEED A WATCH I NEED A WATCH A WATCH WILL FIX MY LIFE! I spiral about it a little and start researching and reading and looking - these are some I have my eye on. I have the most fun looking at Cartier, and I generally speaking would prefer to buy one resale - so these are all pre-loved. I can really get sucked into a watch hole on Bezel, it’s a good browsing experience, but also a good educational resource to get a sense of what’s out there.
NIAD ART CENTER
I’m working on a project that involves interiors…that’s all I’ll say for now… but I’m thinking about that and crafting a space a lot, and looking at accents and furniture, etc. For art, I keep going back to the NIAD Art Center (NIAD stands for: Nurturing Independence Through Artistic Development), which is an art studio with programming “designed by 75 adult artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities with support from a staff of 30 creatives and working artists.” There are a host of artists, and they showcase the art online for purchase, and there is so much I love. I bought a cat sculpture by Dorian Reid years ago, and it’s one of my treasures. I want another (this one). I also love these clay sculptures by Vincenté Valenzuela, and this painting by Tre’von Silva, but it’s a little too big for the space. This Aretha Franklin vessel is amazing. I’m planning on collecting some of these clay vegetables by Julio Del Rio.
THIS CUTIE PIE SUNSCREEN SET
In the summer I start thinking about hostess gifts - we’re staying with friends on Long Island later this summer, but I think a lot of us are traveling and staying with people and needing a good little gift, right? Rather than giving a candle (again) I kind of like the idea of giving someone this weird little sunscreen travel set? Is it too weird? Vacation Sun Belt, $40
THESE PANTS
I CANNOT TAKE THEM OFF! The best. They’re the ones I’m wearing in the beginning of this video - I recommend buying them slightly bigger than your typical size for slouch. They’re perfect. Polo, $248
That’s it!
Your friend,
Laurel
You so had me with "a watch will fix my life"! Hahaha!
My sweet husband bought me the Cartier watch (big splurge) on the left and I am here to tell you IT DOES NOT FIX YOUR LIFE but what it does do is look good with everything else you wear and its design perfection does make your eyes happy when you look at it on your arm.
I have that green Tibi skirt! It works with 90% of my wardrobe. So good.
