*I say this again in a sec, but the regular Saturday Snack is also live here - I just didn’t want to send two emails*
If you’ve been reading for a while, you know I have a fancy mom. She’s not a snob, she’s not into labels, she’s into quality, and joy. She’s into true luxury that has less to do with a price tag, and more to do with a feeling. She’s created an almost unbearably beautiful and delicious life for herself, and thus - is SO FUCKING HARD to shop for. She always delights in going to Turpan with me in Los Angeles (truly, IYKYK, it is *the best* store in LA, IMO, and a truly stellar example of a small specialty store), she loves a great meal, she’s not impressed with trends or frivolous spending, and she has truly exquisite taste.
And, she sometimes writes guest newsletters for Earl Earl. Lucky me!!! If you want more of my fancy mom, here’s her holiday gift guide from last year, her guide to making the most comfortable bed of all time, her tips for keeping your towels nice for a long, long time, mother’s day gift ideas from my fancy mom, and her very reasonable tips for making your home a little nicer.
(If you’re looking for the regular Saturday Snack, it’s a super luxury gift guide, and it’s here - it published today also, I just didn’t want to send two emails.)
Anyway, here she is - this is just part 1, next week you’ll get part 2 with even more treats, things for dog lovers, and gifts for the home:
Finding a delightful treasure for your mom is hard. She’s seen it all. Done it all. How can you take the upper hand and usher her into an experience that makes her feel like you just completed her dreams? You have to get off the beaten path. Dig a little deeper. So here we go.
FOR THE MOM WHO LIKES A LITTLE GLAMOUR
I recently discovered this extensive, yet not widely promoted, set of creations from Dries Van Noten that inspired me like nothing has for years. I think any single item from this collection would be a luxurious treasure. I was in LA recently, and I found that (of course!), Laurel already knew about them. She took me to the Dries Van Noten shop in West Hollywood, where we lusted after them in the flesh, and they are all breath-takingly gorgeous and unique.
First, there is this collection of “genderless” fragrance samples that visually correspond to the rest of the collection. We sampled these fragrances, and I can say that they are killer good. You can tippy toe into this world with beautifully designed fragrance samplers.
The large set is $70, and comes with ten samples, and the small set is $40 and comes with five vials.
