Every time I do a callout for ideas of what to look for, I get a million requests for things to wear to a wedding. So here we are! This whole thing is dedicated to summer event dressing. All with the idea of things you can ideally wear again, either more casually, or to a different event OR are pre-owned. I don’t love the idea of wear-once pieces, unless they’re pre-owned and can go back into the circular fashion thing. AND because I can’t help myself, I styled some looks out of my closet that I’d wear to each hypothetical event. I’m doing an accessories edit all the way at the bottom.
City Wedding
City wedding! I don’t really know what else to call this other than anonymous and chic. Maybe this is the best direction if you don’t really know what the dress code is or the vibe, or if you don’t really know much about anything but want to look tidy and fancy but not super girly. Maybe more fashiony, I guess?
I’d probably wear this Old Céline dress that ties in the front. Kind of officey, but with some fun accessories it’s not officey.
1. I’m obsessed with this Raey dress - I love the super deep V, and then that the dress is straight on the sides, not fitted, so it’s revealing but not. I also love that the straps aren’t adjustable, I hate the little sliders on straps. Raey, $255
2. A slightly more formal blank slate black dress. Buy this and you’ll wear it for literally years. Raey, $315
3. I love this mega simple black mini dress. Imagine it with little pointy flats. Theory, $325
4. This one from La Ligne has an excellent shape. Reminds me a bit of Philo-era Céline. It’s a little sporty too, which is fun. La Ligne, $350
5. Slinky and simple and navy! Nice and romantic and a little girlier than the other options. La Ligne, $495
6. Another slinky one - this has a nice high slit and a scoop neck and looks super comfortable. This is very easy to dress up or down. La Ligne, $395
7. Uggggg the prettiest! Most simple! Most beautiful! Dress! I am in love with this and I want it so much, even though I have nowhere to wear it. Toteme, $680
8. This is sort of out of left field, but it’s so cool and graphic, and would be killer with a red lip and gold satin bag. I’m crazy about this one. You’d easily be best dressed in this. Tory Burch, $1,019
9. And then…. Ugh. The Row. This has a little internal strap so that it keeps the fold up around your waist and doesn’t lose shape. It’s also the softest fabric ever, and feels and wears like a dream. Another one you’ll have and wear forever. The Row, $1,590
Party Wedding
My favorite kind! You know it’s going to be a late night, you know you’re going to dance your face off, you know it’s going to be a big silly, messy, drunk party. So you can wear something loud and stupid and easy to dance in.
