This is all kind of hard to put into words, because like most of what I write about here - it’s highly personal. It’s personal to my style, my perspective, and my body. So it’s not meant to a blanket prescriptive thing, rather hopefully to help you think about what you have and how you dress a little different.
And back to the body topic, I’ve gotten some very helpful and very honest feedback about consistently including clothing options for people at different sizes. I’m doing a lazy job if all I’m including are things that work on me (I’m not stick thin, but I don’t have curves at all), and I’ve been a bit lazy! I’m going to actively work to include options for people with boobs, or hips, or who might want to otherwise embrace their shape. When I was in magazines we were very thoughtful to include options for a range of price points and body shapes and sizes - and while I have been pretty dedicated to not only include capital D Designer choices (though I do love them) I still have work to do on the sizing front. I want this to speak to as many people as possible, and also how boring if it’s only things for someone with AA boobs (me) and everything is from The Row.
Anyway, here we are. Lately as I’ve gotten dressed, I’ve thought a bit more in depth about why I put something together, and what makes the outfit “work,” or feel “interesting.” I put together some examples here, but in each instance, the non-”working” example isn’t exactly bad, it’s just not great. And the goal is to feel great, right? And again, the difference between fine and great is personal to me, but I’m going to walk you through my thought process a bit and how I build an outfit that feels special.
