In my career as a magazine editor, there were certain topics that we touched on, every year, at the same time of year. January was always a version of new year, new you. In March we went hard on sundresses. April was denim. Always. Mothers Day = Jewelry pages. And the holidays - aside from Gift Guides, every meeting was about party dressing.
Party dressing - what to wear to a holiday party - was an annual problem to be solved, year after year, we made out like the average woman had so many parties this time of year that her life became essentially unmanageable. The crisis of the avalanche of commitments, the idea was that we were all running around covered in boob tape and spanx, failing to manage our social calendars, and THANK GOD for the authorities at 4 Times Square (IYKYK) telling everyone how to go from “Desk to Drinks” etc. etc. etc.
