This week I am on vacation, and it is just SO FUCKING GREAT. We’re in Florida with my in-laws, we’re listening to thunderstorms, swimming all day, having cocktails at 3PM, I’m in heaven. I caught a frog tonight, we rented a mini-van, it’s so excellent. I’m hap-py to the max.
So nothing big this week, just some dreamy things I have my eye on. First up - things for the home. I just moved, I’m nesting, etc. etc.
Second thing - I know vacation season is technically practically over, but one thing I’ve had an issue with forever is that all ~vacation gear~ is typically bohemian. I have zero boho style inclination. So what do you do then? Here’s my edit. It’s more of a travel capsule for fall & winter, so not beachy, but it’s September, so that’s what’s happening. You know the thing, ILYSM, you’re the best. Thank you for being a pal.
First: Home stuff….
8 out of 9 of these are things I would never be able to have in my own home, because I live with someone who has slightly different taste than mine, but still, I enjoy them.
1. House shoes are a non-negotiable for me. We don’t wear outdoor shoes indoors, but I still insist on slippers for myself. I have kids. They have crusties. They eat crackers wherever they want. They eat fucking rice cakes. I need something to keep the crusties off my feet and these are very very pretty. Emilia Wickstead x Vibi Venezia slippers, $130
2. This chair! So cute. I love Heather Taylor so her collab with West Elm is right up my alley. She is a pal and a very excellent person. HTH x West Elm Chair, $849
3. This rug! From Sarah Sherman Samuel’s collab with Lulu & Georgia - I love a checkerboard rug, and this might be the only thing on this list my husband would also enjoy. Rug in 6’ x 9’, $1,300
4. A vintage David Hockney poster! What’s not to love! Great for the kitchen I think. David Hockney poster, $198
5. These Beata Hewman ribbon cabinet pulls….to die for! Bow Handles, ~$70
6. And what about these rattan chairs! Actually Justin might like these too, I have to show him, lol they’re so expensive, but still I enjoy. Eero Aarnio chairs, $3,800
7. Another piece from the Sarah Sherman Samuel’s Lulu & Georgia collaboration. The price for something like this is relatively great. It’s so good. Daybed, $1,998
8. A quilt! Who knew Chairish had such a great collection of vintage and new quilts? I love this one. Quilt, $389
9. Lastly, our house has a very 80s coke den Italian furniture vibe, but I think something like this would fit in nicely. Mirror, $375
And now!!!!! What I would ideally like to bring on a cutie pie little vacation this fall to a fun city. Or just to wear in LA.
1. This is a super lightweight blazer, and it’s men’s! It will be boxy! It will be oversized! it will be soft and cuff roll-uppable, it will be everything you ever wanted in a soft, easy blazer, and it. will. be. UNDER $100! Wear it on a plane. Wear it to a museum. Wear it to a club and let someone spill tequila all over it. Live in it. Laugh in it. Love in it. J.Crew Blazer, $99
2. I love a little beauty wildcard when I’m traveling. Like, maybe in Paris I’ll be the kid of woman who wears glitter like it’s nothing! You never know! I like this glitter because you can really only see it when it hits the light, so as far as glitter goes, it’s pretty subtle. Lemonhead LA Glitter in Adult Film, $22
3. A perfect travel bag - crossbody but not in like a 2013 I’m going to a festival way. It’s sleek! It’s chic! It’s Wandler! Wandler bag, $885
4. A vest top is the best possible version of a regular tank. It looks good with jeans, wide leg pants, a slutty skirt (more on that later), it just looks good. Raey vest, $329
5. These Row boots are driving me nuts I want them so bad. Should I do it? They’re perfect for a trip because on a flight if your feet swell they’ll still fit, and then you can basically wear them with a dress and you look cool, jeans and you look cool, anything but most shorts (but someone please prove me wrong) they’d go well with. The Row boots, $1,300
6. And then these loafers are the other great thing, they’ll be really nice with a fancier dress, or if you want something with a little less coverage. In my opinion, a good pair of loafers, a good boot, and a minimalist sandal are the only shoes to bring on a trip. I NEVER bring heels. Loafers, $130
7. Ok, not to be a total Raey fest, but their new collection is pretty excellent. I must have this slightly trapeze-y denim jacket with wide, curved seams on the arms. It’s SO SPECIAL and so perfect. Raey jacket, $362
8. Oh boy a leather trench! The dream! Picture this one with those wide leg pants up there! Heaven! Or the tank dress! Even better! And it’s under $1000, which for something like this is pretty good considering it’s real leather. Leather trench, $600
9. And then this slip dress! Another Raey goody - here’s something I hate: visible strap adjusters on a dress. Silly detail to get hung up on but it’s a deal killer for me. I like a clean strap, no adjuster. That’s what a tailor is for! Anyway, this dress is so clean and elegant and perfect, and JERSEY! So it won’t wrinkle, and won’t be too hot. Raey dress, $110
10. These pants! A classic for a reason. On a trip I’d go all in and wear them with the blazer and vest top and loafers + glitter. They’re perfect. And easy. Frankie Shop pants, $197
11. Then, all this chic chic chic minimalist chic, you have to have something silly. I wear a bracelet my kids helped me make, but this is the same vibe. it helps cut all the seriousness and is a nice little moment of delight. Eliou bracelet, $100
12. Lastly, back to that slutty skirt idea…I love a tiny little shiny tight tight bitchy little horny skirt! The pictures of it on look hornier than this. I’d wear this with my favorite white button down and loafers and no makeup and then run around all night like an idiot. (I wish….) Sequin mini skirt, $60
The end!
I hope you’re having a fun time, I love you
Your friend,
Laurel
