Last week….weekend…week? What day is it?

I sent out a request for everyone’s favorite books of 2024. I included a few in last weekend’s Saturday Snack, but I got so many responses. Some people wrote a reason why they loved it, some just said the name (Demon Copperhead and All Fours each got about six times more recommendations that I included here, but most people just said the book title, so I didn’t include them), but there were so many excellent recommendations, I had to compile them all here.

When I think about luxury, which is what I’ve been thinking about a lot lately, and will be a theme for me in the coming months, I think of luxuriating. And when I think of luxuriating I think of being absorbed in reading. Reading and luxury go hand in hand for me - I think good books are an essential piece of a good life.

So here they are, all the recs! Go take your pants off, get in bed, and read, baby, read.

All Fours by Miranda July

“Because I have continued to think about it for months after I finished and because it was such an astute expression of how fucked up it is to be a woman in her forties!!”

“Brilliantly brave, outrageous, hilarious, honest, exceptional writing. Unashamed and deeply reassuring.”

“Incomparable.”

“Brave, liberating.”

“Totally unlike anything else/well written/also imp in terms of representation.”

“Deep truths in the most unexpected packages.”

Long Island Compromise by Taffy Brodesser-Akner

“So well written, funny, sad, unexpected.”

“I love her writing and how she uses normal words to convey her stories. It’s not a pretentious writer.”

The Postcard by Anne Berest

“It was such an amazing and inspiring story about survival and generational trauma.”

The Humans by Matt Haig

“Truly incredible yogic thinking combined with sci-fi.”
