Every time I do a call out for suggestions on what to search for t-shirts is the #1 request. But t-shirts are super personal! Depending on your body type and the rest of your style, there’s a tee for you.
That said, like all of these, my edit is filtered heavily through the lens of what I like. I don’t have much of a chest, and I like my shirts with some heft. I prefer something heavyweight rather than tissue, and I like something opaque rather than sheer. I don’t love a slubby texture either. As with all things, I’m particular!
So with that in mind, here are my selects.
Boxy
1. Gap, $8
Like I said, I like boxy and heavy. I have one of these 90’s reissue shirts from Gap, and it is exactly that. It’s slightly cropped, which I like, and has a nice pocket. Very casual, but excellent structure. Also, it comes in sizes up to XXL.
2. Gap, $25
Be warned, there’s a lot of Gap in this letter. I love this shirt for the same reasons as the first one. It’s not quite as thick cotton, but it’s not clingy or overly feminine, but it is slightly cropped. This one also goes up to XXL.
A perfect specimen from Everlane. This one is slightly longer, but not so long that it would cover your butt, which I don’t like unless it’s all super oversized. I love how this one isn’t fitted on the arms.
The definition of boxy tee! This one is a bit flowier, if that’s your thing, and it comes up to 4XL.
I have one of these and I keep it on a hanger, not folded, I like it so much. It is slightly slubby, but it has the textured weight of an old-school tee.
I also have one of these! Also slightly slubby, but I like the texture. It’s thinner too, so not so hot in the summer.
Slim
Sometimes an outfit calls for something a little more fitted and polished! Like with wide-leg trousers, for example. These are all tuck-in-able and would probably be better for someone with a larger bust.
1. Uniqlo, $20
Uniqlo! The best. A true classic. This one is kind of a mix between boxy and slim, it’s not tight, but not exactly baggy either. It comes in sizes up to XXL.
2. Gap, $25
I really, really love the sleeve length on this one. So special! It’s a very polished, almost retro look that keeps your upper arms covered, if you don’t love showing them off. Again, this one comes up to XXL.
3. Kotn, $38 (XXL)
One of my all-time favorites, this is a great do it all tee. And! It’a made from responsibly sourced materials in a super sustainable/responsible way. More on that here! You can’t go wrong in this tee, which also goes up to size XXL.
I love everything Flore Flore. This is a super luxurious tee that holds its shape, has perfectly considered seam widths - everything about it is good.
And finally, you can’t talk about luxury tees without mentioning The Row. I don’t actually own a Row tee, but one day I aspire to. They are the gold standard of perfect t-shirts.
Mensy
1. Gap, $31
For the most part, if I’m in a tee, I’m wearing a boxy cropped one or one of my husband’s. I like a big man tee shirt! This one has great long sleeves, a great pocket, and a nice heft.
2. J.Crew, $37
Again, another perfect man shirt! This one is a bit more slim fitting, but still great.
This one is a women’s shirt, but has the same men’s fit and is mega soft.
4. Velva Sheen, $90 for two
And finally! This is the brand my husband wears, and these are the ones I always try to steal. It has a great kind of paper cotton feel, and a great little pocket. It’s stiffer than most, but still soft somehow? It’s truly perfect, and comes in a pack of two.
There we are!
Love, your friend,
Laurel
I can't believe you left out the Uniqlo U tee!
