Hi! As always with Sat Snack, paid subscribers have early access on Friday, while all other readers can open it on Saturday. In either case, thank you for your support - I really, really, really love you.
THE BEST SHIRT
I love a lot of shirts, this one from J.Crew for something to knock around in, this one from Chava for something special and dressy, this one from EM Reitz for something else special, this one from Maria McManus for something interesting, but not too. But what about one that’s just simply perfect. Neither fitted nor oversized, with no “twisty” design details? In crisp poplin and easy to wear colors? This one from Comme Si. I have it in Grecian Blue, and it’s easily my most-worn shirt. This is the best shirt. Comme Si, $275
BEST FLAT SHOE FOR FALL THAT ISN’T A LOAFER OR BALLET FLAT OR SNEAKER
My favorite loafer? This or this. Favorite ballet flat? This one. But my favorite shoe for fall that isn’t a loafer, isn’t a ballet flat, and isn’t a sneaker, is this chukka from Jamie Haller. It’s like my beloved Clark’s, but with a thin sole, flexible suede, and a thinner profile. They’re easier to wear - less clunky than Clark’s, but more substantial than The Row’s Tyler lace ups (which I do also LOVE). I plan to beat these to hell and wear them all year. Jamie Haller, $595
BEST NAVY SWEATSHIRT
There are two - one is on the left, my beloved Comfort Colors from Amazon - a gorgeously worn-in garment dyed simple crew neck that’s less than $30. On the right, another masterpiece from Jamie Haller. A spongey crewneck that has a terry texture inside, so it never gets crunchy or pilly. The fit is perfect, and it feels luxurious - which it is, at $275.
BEST BASIC DENIM
Two choices here for your most basic, essential, wear everyday without a thought of how to style it denim - In my opinion: Wrangler Cowboy Cut jeans (on the left). These are my all time favorites, they have no stretch and are very very straight and rigid. I like them in the prewashed Indigo color and they fit my body (no hips, flat butt, wide waist) perfectly (they’re also only $50). I also have heard amazing things about Madewell’s Curvy 90’s Straight Leg. It has a tiiiiny bit of stretch for curves, but looks like nonstretch, and it comes in plus, petite, standard, and tall sizes.
BEST COTTON SWEATER
Hands down, Babaa. Babaa, about $300
BEST MINISKIRT
I just got this miniskirt from Matteau, and it is honestly perfect. Matte crepe, no frills, no exposed zippers or anything weird, just simple, simple, simple. Matteau, $380
BEST WORK TOTE
It’s a classic for a reason - I would advise against any kind of monogramming or cheeky slogan on it - keep it simple. It’s neither fancy nor overly casual, rather it exists in the in-between space, somehow managing to be both. LL Bean
BEST BLAZER
I wish it wasn’t so expensive, but it really is, honestly, perfect. It isn’t too oversized or too fitted, it’s structured but not stiff. It’s navy, but almost black. The buttons don’t stand out, the tailoring is exquisite, sometimes you get what you pay for and this thing…man…. it is worth it. Bottega Veneta, $2,900
BEST TEE SHIRT
I just was gifted this one in yellow, and now I want fifteen more. It has the right amount of structure, the right fit, perfect arm holes, INCREDIBLE colors, everything about it is correct. Still Here, $88
THE BEST TROUSERS
Simply exquisite - they fit as well as any of the designer pants I have. 10/10. Cos, $220
THAT’S ALL FOR NOW!
I love you!
Your friend, forever,
Laurel
Avid reader + would love a chukka styling inspo compilation. They seem so comy/cool. I live in Miami. Socks? XX
I'm really curious about the Cos pants but I must've missed if you've shown them on you? I fear I have too much of a butt for that cool slouch that the model showcases
