Saturday Snack: Perfect Sandals, Neon Blush, a Very Special Trash Can, an It-Dress on Sale etc. etc.
Here are a few juicy tidbits that caught my eye this week:
1. Mansur Gavriel Zebra Flats
I’ve long loved the shape of Mansur Gavriel’s ballet flats (which you probably already know if you’ve been reading this for a while) and I keep trying to work out a way to get the zebra version into an edit but I can never quite do it. But here they are. Instant panache! Instant feeling like a hot bitch and loving it! Instant personal micro-buzz for knowing you look cooler, better, more in the know than everyone else! They are silly, and horny, and I fucking love them. Mansur Gavriel, $495
2. Neon Orange Blush
The brighter, honestly, the better. It looks so crazy neon, but on it’s just the right amount of sunburned look. I put it on the apples of my cheeks, my eyelids, and my lips. NudieStix Cream Blush All Over Face Color in Picante, $35
3. These Wide Black Cotton Headbands
Apparently Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner made these a “thing” again in like, 2019, so maybe I’m behind, but I wore one the other day and felt very fabulous in it. I like the Scünci ones, especially now that I’m growing out my bob - all those awful little back of the head hairs become less of a problem with one of these. Scünci, $8/5 headbands
4. A Handwoven Trash Can Made By A Former Editor In Chief
I saw Deborah Needleman (former EIC of Domino (RIP! - the print version, at least), and T Magazine. Now, it appears, she’s an expert basket weaver, and works with harvested river rush, and… “Inspired by a long tradition in the British Isles, which has nearly died out, these designs are based on original vintage pieces made in the 1970’s by rural Irish craftswomen, and given to Deborah by her friend Deeda Blair, who collected them. Over time, the variations in color will mellow to a lovely golden hue.” A $600 beautiful woven wastepaper basket is as silly as it gets, and is so beautiful. I want it. Deborah Needleman, €560
5. Jamie Haller Sandals
Jamie describes them as a “minimalist maximalist sandal,” and I think that’s spot on. I love how the shoe wraps around your insole, and the simplicity of them with the scale of the buckles is just perfect. I very much want these for LA fall. Jamie Haller, $465
6. A Very Interesting Floor Lamp
The color of the wood with the black lampshade is so cool. And I love that it not really one specific style, therefore, it’s every style. I can see it in my house, which is mostly 70’s Italian or 70’s Italian-inspired, as well as a scandinavian kind of minimalist place, or in the LA farmhouse thing. I just think it’s so beautiful, and the cord, blessedly, is not hideous. Lostine, $1,330
7. An It-Dress On Sale
I’m reluctant to call this an It-dress actually, because it’s a silhouette Diotima (a very HOT brand) has done for a bit, but that’s not to say that this season it didn’t seem like THE FUCKING DRESS. And it is an IT dress in the sense that when you wear it, you feel like IT. If I were braver, I’d buy it and wear it with a little satin bralette and a white thong, but I am not that brave, so would likely instead wear it with a little white bralette and Maria McManus bike shorts (made from recycled Nylon and feeling like a zillion bucks). Diotima dress, $478 (was $1,195)
8. An All-Black Sneaker That’s Decent For The Planet
These are SO CHIC! And not the same sneakers literally everyone has. Everything on the shoe is black, so there’s not much in the way of visible branding. I really like these sneakers, but dislike the green symbol on the back of most of them. The sole is made with responsibly tapped rubber (from an actual rubber tree…), and any plastic in the shoe is made from recycled bottles. They have a cork sole, which makes them extra comfy too. Very tidy. Cariuma, $89
And there, we are!
