Saturday Snack: A Life-Simplifying Shopping App, Perfect Ladylike Shoes, A Cropped Peacoat to Wear Forever, and my Favorite Jeans are On Sale
Little tidbits from around the internet.
This week’s newsletter is supported by Carted, a new app that is very popular in Australia, and recently launched in the US. I downloaded it a few weeks ago, before agreeing to parter, because I wanted to see how helpful it really is, and I have to say - it is super, super helpful! You can use it to create your own shopping wishlist (you add items on your phone, directly to your list - you can see what that looks like in this handy video) and then get notifications for price drops, restocks, alerts when something is out of stock, etc. I also use it to add books I’d like to read to a reading list, and skincare products I’d like to try - I can work my way through them and cross them off my list at my leisure. I’m also planning on using it to create idea wishlists for my kids holiday shopping, plus gifts for my other family and friends. It helps keep me organized, and it helps me also sleep on purchases that are kind of…major. I add them to my wishlist, and then set it aside, wait at least a week, and if I still am desperate for the thing, then I consider buying it. Rather than have eighteen thousand tabs open, I’m using this instead. Here’s how it works:
Here are the things I’m dying for THE MOST off my fall wishlist on Carted.
LADY SHOES
These aren’t technically on my wish-list, because I was just gifted them, but as soon as I opened the box I put them on. I wore them around my house for an hour and a half until it was bed time. They’re comfortable, but also SO LADYLIKE and I just love them. They’re the best navy color, too - almost black. Ann Mashburn, $325
A SUPER INTERESTING NAVY SHIRT
This is a really beautiful take on the classic button down - the navy is so beautiful, and it comes with this interesting triangle shaped scarf, which is also detachable, so you can wear it on its own. Caron Callahan, $345
NEW GOLD PENDANTS
First my friend Emily got one of these “Groovy” letters from Adina Reyter, then my friend Mia, and then…I also couldn’t resist. My dream would be to have one letter for every member of my family and loved one, but… maybe one day - or, I’ll go for a bunch of the mini ones (they make great gifts!). Adina Reyter hinged charm, $1,198
BLACK JEANS
My all time favorite jeans, the Wrangler Cowboy Cut, are on sale in black non-stretch for….$20. I have them in the prewashed Indigo, but not in black yet, so I’m definitely snagging a pair. The sizing is weird though - you have to use your measurements and look at their size chart. Wrangler, $20
A FAIRISLE CARDIGAN
I’ve never, ever, ever wanted a Fairisle sweater ever before…until this fall it feels like the thing I absolutely have to have to wear with my wide-leg trousers, baggy jeans, pencil skirts…it feels like the key to unlocking all kinds of untapped potential in my closet. I’m dying for one. I love, LOVE this one from Doen. Doen, $398
A CROPPED PEACOAT
As much as Los Angelinos would love to have the rest of the country thinking we never have bad weather…it does get cold. I’ve been looking for a sharp new LA-appropriate (car-friendly (nothing long that you have to sit on while you’re driving…)) coat. I love this one from Toteme because it will look great at dropoff over jeans and a Fairisle sweater and at a worky thing over something fancier and more fun. It’s super simple - doesn’t even have visible buttons! - but it does have a very pretty band thing across the back to give it shape. Toteme, $1,000
A NEW PAIR OF HEELS
I only really have one pair of heels that I wear with any sort of regularity - they’re very old Saint Laurent, and they’re perfect, and I can’t believe they don’t still make them. ANYWAY! I need something else just in case they fall apart on me. When I was in Paris I tried on some insanely fun tinsel mules at Dries van Noten and I cannot believe I didn’t buy them on the spot… but I didn’t. Regrets. Now, however, I see the same shape, just without the tinsel, which honestly is probably a smarter purchase anyway. Dries van Noten, $715
And there we go.
What’s on your fall list!?!
Your friend,
Laurel
I was just at a fashion show and the models were wearing those crazy Dries tinsel shoes. They looked great with long evening dresses
