We made it.
I will say - a road trip with a one year old and a three year old is about the destination, not the journey. It is also a lot like childbirth, and two weeks later I’ve blocked a lot of it out. But more than that, I’m in a bit of disbelief that we made a decision, made a plan, and we did it. We did something! And oh my god, after a year of wheels spinning, it feels so good. I think over the last year one of the things that was so uncomfortable (everything was uncomfortable) was that I felt totally out of control. We were all sidelined in our own lives, not the star, not even a supporting character - an out of work actor just waiting.
So we drove, a lot. It took five days, but we made it. We traveled! I cried a lot the first day listening to “Rainbow” and thinking about my mom. I cried a lot one of the days when the kids were really struggling with the transition. I cried a few days after we got here when I s…
