Hunting The Best - Crowdsourced Shopping #9
Red shoes, everyday hoop earrings, necklaces to layer, denim shirts, and one-piece swimsuits.
Another week, another batch of requests! This was a really fun one to shop for. I always try and take these cues and filter them through the timeless anti-trend lens. Hopefully, these are all things you could wear forever and ever. The end.
Red Shoes
Wow a dream request! A red shoe! SO pretty, and cool. Great with literally everything, and I included a range of styles and ~vibes~ since the brief was so vague, but I would happily wear all of these (and I actually own one of them).
1. A sexy heel! And at a very trend-friendly price point. Mango, $70
2. I have a pair of these in navy/black, and they’re great. The footbed is really comfy and smushy and they’re beautifully made. Kind of unbelievable they’re under $200! Margaux, $195
3. Similar to the ones above, these are a classic ballet flat, but the satin makes them really special. I’d wear these to something black tie (imagine with a black long sleeved dress!) or just with jeans and a suede cropped jacket. So pretty. Porte & Paire, $250
4. These are the shoes I always hoped to find second hand or at a thrift shop. Bitchy 80s FIRE ENGINE RED pointy shoes. God, nothing better. Tory Burch, $278
5. These are the sweetest little red velvet Mary Janes. I love them very much. La Monde Beryl, $440
6. I tried these on and they are SO COMFORTABLE - so smushy with great arch support. MM6, $590
7. I bought these for myself this season. A perfect minimalist red sandal from The Row. They also did their gorgeous mesh sock shoes this season in red. Oh! Also, here’s a pair of the leather flip flops I have from them in red majorly on sale! The Row, $678
8. And finally - the gorgeous mule from Manolo. So classic, so chic! Manolo Blahnik, $795
Necklaces to Layer
The main thing about layering necklaces is that you’re going to want them to all hit at different lengths. So here, I’m going to organize them more or less by length, rather than by price. If you have two that hit at the same length they’re just going to tangle.
1. My precious! My Dorsey necklace - it looks SO great, so cool and modern, and comes in a lot of lengths. I wear mine at 16” and it’s a great first layer for a group of necklaces. I like this setting the most because it’s not super blingy but still definitely has sparkle. Dorsey, $550
2. A perfect, dainty little gold chain necklace with dots of navy enamel. This is the kind of thing you can shower, sleep, swim, live in and just let it become a part of your life. It’s more special than a plain gold chain, but not so noticeable that you have to create looks around it. Gigi Clouzeau, $375
3. The prettiest pearl necklace - I love the different sizes of pearls! I love how the clasp blends perfectly into the design. So special. Too special (expensive?) look at this one instead. Sophie Bille Brahe, $2,475
4. This one is 17” so in between a collar and whatever the next thing is. It’s mega shiny, mega smooth, and isn’t exactly the kind of chain you’d wear pendants on - this is more one that you wear alone every day forever. Catbird, $498
5. I LOVE THIS ONE! The little egg shaped capsule holds something secret. Imagine the possibilities! Plus, it looks really beautiful and chic. J.Hannah, $1,600
6. Now here’s a chain for charms! It goes up to 22” inches, which is perfect, in my opinion, for charms in your cleavage. Catbird, $268
7. A mixed bead tourmaline necklace for the best kind of chic art teacher feeling. This one is 24.8 inches, so it will hang the lowest out of all of these. So pretty. Jia Jia, $904
One Piece Swimsuit
Ok, prepare yourself for the most boring, nitpicky edit ever…but when it comes to swim I like classic, neutral, not too cut-outy, not too revealing, not too grandma, not trendy, no color, and on and on. So here - presenting nine one-piece suits with only minor differences.
1. Ok, so this one is strapless, which is different. Off the body the ruching looks weird, but on it’s beautiful. If I didn’t have kids (someone pulling down my neckline constantly) I’d like to wear something like this. J.Crew, $118
2. I love the open back on this along with the square neckline. A square neckline is my favorite. Here’s the same suit in burnt orange and pink. Lido, $185
3. Color! I’ve never worn one of these, but I hear great things about them. Mega comfy, very stretchy, and super flattering. I really love the extra-thin straps. Hunza G, $215
4. Ok, this has a cutout, which I don’t usually go for, but I like that the relatively low leg holes balance out the amount of skin. The super low back is also so pretty. Anemos, $250
5. This one is crinkly like the Hunza G, but a little less so. The hair-thin straps are SO beautiful! Likely best for someone with a flat chest, but for that it’s gorgeous. Toteme, $250
6. Here we are again with the square neckline! I have this one in orange/red and I love it. Very easy to wear, my butt cheeks don’t hang out, it’s an all around winner. Bondi Born, $250
7. And again with the crinkle texture! I love the classic 90s cut of this, and the super low back. Very sexy, and made of recycled polyester. Mara Hoffman, $325
8. Here, the ultimate classic. An Eres one piece. It has a square neckline (check) thin straps (check) and is not a thong (check, check, check). It is truly perfect, though I will say the back is a bit high for my preference, but still. This is the absolute ultimate black one piece and you will wear it for ever. Eres, $390
Everyday Gold Hoops
I don’t recommend sleeping in earrings (it makes your piercing holes stretch out) but all of these are the kind of earring you could wear everyday for years. I don’t believe in trendy jewelry - these are all classic and timeless.
1. A thick little huggy earring - these are super easy to take on and off. I also like that you buy them in singles, so if you have a few piercings you can wear the same earring in each. Catbird, $118 each
2. Definitely do not sleep in these, but they make a big statement without riding on trend. Sophie Buhai, $435
3. I have a pair of these and I love them. They are truly the perfect statement hoop, but they’re hollow, so light enough for every day. My mom wears them nearly every day too. Ring Concierge, $498
4. These are also sold in singles, but are so sweet - a great little tiny bit of sparkle, that you can stack or wear as a pair every day. Ila, $363
5. It’s hard to tell here but these have diamonds along the front. A whisper of diamonds! A really nice little dusting of glitter! A dream! EF Collection, $1,495
6. And finally, these are what I wear almost every day. An investment for sure, but they’re heirloom quality and so beautifully made. These are so simple, but they’re one of my favorite things I own. Sherman Field, $2,460
Denim Button Down
A good denim/chambray button down is a thing of beauty. It’s an essential grounding piece, and looks *that much cooler* with a pair of jeans (and a belt) than a plain white button down. I love mine.
1. This is mine. It’s perfect. Just the right amount of Western detail without being costumey. Mango, $60
2. I love how clean this one is, and mega oversized. It’s not at all distressed, bu super crisp. Club Monaco, $80
3. A slightly heftier version of the Mango one - this one has zero branding on the buttons, which I like. J.Crew, $98
4. I LOVE this one! Another men’s, but it has such a nice vintage feel. The white inside cuffs are just heaven. Alex Mill, $150
5. And finally! One that’s kind of a shaket (shirt/jacket). This would also be super nice over a bikini in the summer with the sleeves rolled up. Raey, $460
And there we are!
I love you! Your friend,
Laurel
