Longtime readers will know I’m very THC positive over here. I do drink, but my preferred vice is weed. It’s something I talk about a lot IRL, something I’m very pro, but most of the available information is geared to a get as high as you can get kind of audience, which is not me. I’ve said this before, I did a whole podcast episode on this with Ellen Scanlon of How To Do The Pot (a podcast and newsletter geared at demystifying pot for women) - microdosing, or what I call getting a tiny baby bit high, is my favorite.
That is especially true during this time of year when basically everything grates on your nerves. When there’s a to-do list a million miles long, and you have to make literal “magic” happen overnight. When you’re staying up late wrapping presents, cooking, hiding an elf doll in increasingly ridiculous spots around your house, and then waking up early to do it all over again. I find when I rely on alcohol or wine to chill myself out and signal end of the day I usually wake up feeling even less rested, more irritable. On weed, however, I wake up restored.
Because I’m a longtime fan, I know how to dose myself appropriately, but I also don’t know a lot, so I asked Ellen, who is an expert. Here, she explains how to indulge responsibly, how to dabble, and some sneaky science about your hormones that might make it easier to get way too stoned (and what to do if that happens):
