Last week, before my family and I took off for our holiday travels, I put out a request for general questions. I haven’t done an AMA in years, and I’m excited to answer a few things. Most of these came from that request, but a few are questions I get over and over. Here we go.

“I’m trying to build a capsule collection, but I struggle with shoes. Are there styles or brands you go to?”

The long answer is: it depends on a few factors - your work, your lifestyle, and your personal style. But that’s unhelpful advice. In my own work, lifestyle, and personal style there are definitely styles I like, and I do have brand preferences. So instead of lecturing about if your job is X you might need Y, I’m just going to tell you what I do, and what I like.

LOAFERS

1: Bass, $175 2: Emme Parsons, $595 3: Jamie Haller, $595 4: Manolo Blahnik, $895 5: The Row, $1,250

I always have a good pair of loafers in rotation. I wear them when sneakers aren’t appropriate, and I don’t need a heel. My favorites are from Gravati (I got mine at Bergdorf Goodman, but they’re kind of hard to find), The Row (these are the ones I wear most), Emme Parsons, Manolo (on my personal wish list), and Jamie Haller, but I also think the Bass Whitney loafer is as good as it gets, and is super affordable for an everyday shoe ($175).

SANDALS

1: Ancient Greek Sandals, $315 2: Emme Parsons, $495 3: The Row, $850 5: Chanel, $1,475

I live in LA, and I go to the beach a lot, so I always have a pair of Birkenstocks in rotation, but I also like to have some dressier sandals on hand. I wear them with jeans and stuff like that, but I’ll also wear them in place of heels when I have to dress up. I think The Row makes perfect minimalist sandals, but I love Chanel’s for more of a look. I also really like Ancient Greek Sandals, and Emme Parsons makes a style I’ve worn almost nonstop for about 7 years.
