Ok, first off, I have to say it’s been a while since I did the home market. When I was at InStyle I was our interiors editor, so this was kind of my world. Oh how time hath robbed me of my memory! It’s definitely fun to think about all of this again and get back into this world, but I am a little rusty.
That said, these are all things that I would buy or have in my home, so it’s a very niche edit. I don’t do farmhouse really, I like weird things, tactile things, stuff that maybe doesn’t totally go together. Let’s get in to it.
Cute things for a kids room.
Ok, while I love all of this stuff, it’s not to say I’d necessarily put them all in a kids room together. With that in mind -
I just bought a bunch of these crates to organize my kids’ toys in. Color coded/kid, and stackable, I’m optimistic that it will help get their shit under control. Plus, they’re cute and made with recycled plastic.
2. Mr. Boddington’s Studio, $14
And this! I love this silly poster. Each color is described with something real-world, like the gray is “NYC Pigeon” and I can imagine my kids and me getting a kick out of reading them.
This is just an excellent thing - theoretically you can train your kid to not get out of bed until the light changes color (you can preset the light to change color at a certain time). Mine don’t obey, but it is a great nightlight/sound machine combo and the time at the bottom is really helpful for keeping track of wakeups without bringing your phone in.
Cutie! Can never have enough places to hang random stuff.
I LOVE these lamps. I’m struggling to imagine what lampshade you’d put with them - maybe small canary yellow ones? IDK.
A not-kids rug rug for a kids room! I love this. It’s not juvenile, but not too “adult” and who doesn’t love tigers.
7. Leanne Ford for Crate & Barrel rocker, $999, and storage ottoman, $399
Ok, honestly I’m not a big white boucle gal. BUT! I did wish I had a rocker and ottoman when P was a baby because I spent HOURS in the middle of the night nursing her in a folding outdoor chair. Brutal. This one looks super comfortable but also isn’t heinous.
Throw blankets.
1. Lisa Corti quilt, $195 (cotton muslin)
Oooo cotton muslin is soft. I love this print - it would look so nice at the end of a big white puffy bed. Or banker stripe duvet! More on that later.
I really like a throw with some texture. These are reversible and look good from either side. They’re made of lambswool too, so very soft.
Maybe I’m nuts but I had no idea Lands End made quilts! I am in love with this one. I LOVE a traditional quilt. The texture and weight is just heaven. If you want to really splurge, here’s a super beautiful one from Bode.
An excellent price for a nice snuggly wool/cashmere blankie. A dream.
I am obsessed with these Attersee blankets. They’re mega soft, super chic, and the tie around them doubles as a belt. Genius.
Mega luxury. This is a big girl blanket, and oh man, I want one. Pure cashmere here!
Cute towels.
1. The Company Store bath towel, $44
I love a fun colored towel, and navy is….of course, the dream! I would love to have a bathroom with shiny bottle green tiles (like the lovely British kind, not the mass manufactured kind) and navy towels.
2. Ferm Living bath towel, $85
The stripes! In heaven.
3. Chairish x Kassatex bundle, $90
This is maybe a bit precious, and my husband would say no, but if I lived alone I would 100% have scalloped towels.
This is a little pop of fun but not too fun.
I have Baina bath mats and they are so soft. And absorbant. Not so fluffy that you feel like you’re just pushing the water around all over yourself. They’re incredibly high quality. AND cute.
Table lamps or bedside reading lamps.
1. Hay, $165
Ok, I know like everything on this list is from Hay, but listen! Hay is really good! This lamp comes in this shell color and in ivory in this tiny size, and then a really gorgeous bottle green in a slightly taller one.
2. Hay, $165
This guy comes in a handful of colors, I like the yellow!
3. Iaai, $235
This one is bigger - you’d need a large bedside table, I think it’s about a foot across, but it’s so cool. It would be amazing to have one on each side of your bed.
4. Menu, $270
Clean, clean, clean! If your house has a lot going on, this might be a good kind of grounding option.
5. Huey, $349
I LOVE this one. This is the mini size, but it’s still substantial. The ceramic and wood combo is just…. gorgeous.
Duvet covers that aren’t white.
1. Tekla, $150
Tekla makes excellent linens. And the coolest duvet covers in both solids and stripes.
I don’t think I’m grown up enough to have this (My bed is solid white) but I love the black ticking on this one. Very crisp and polished.
Gingham! Ughhhh the dream! With those yellow bedside lamps, can you imagine? So happy.
4. Linoto, $370
I LOVE Linoto. I have hand towels from this brand and the linen has a perfect weight, and a really comforting texture. I’d love to sleep in it.
Soft soft soft, and very subtle stripe. So snuggly.
Easy decor things that make your house more fun.
Cutie pie baby mugs! These also come in a million colors. I know, Hay again, sue me.
I did not know J.Crew made tablecloths! They also do placemats, napkins, and sheets in this stripe, and can you imagine how chic a summer table would be with this tablecloth AND the placemats AND the napkins all matching with white wine and a big ass pavlova? The whole J.Crew home section is the tits.
Just a great storage box.
And a chic as hell vase.
And a cutie pie mirror! It also comes in a nice red, yellow, pink, etc.
Maybe I should have put this with the throws…in any case, I love this color as a solid in a home.
I will never stop wanting one of these…until the day I get myself one!
Rugs are so tricky. But this one would really dress up a room, and looks nice and soft to lay on.
And there we are!
See you next week!
Love, your friend,
Laurel
