Gift Guide Part 2: Fashiony Things That Are Practical/Useful
Gift ideas from around the internet.
Here we are again with more gift ideas. The first GG is here, and the same rules still apply to this one - the thing has to be an actual gift, it has to serve a purpose, and it has to be something I’d be happy to receive, myself. This week, we’re looking at fashiony things.
VINTAGE HERMÉS CANVAS BAG
Technically it’s a cosmetics bag, but practically, you could use it for anything. I’d take it as a chic daytime clutch. Hermés, $275
PRADA CLAW CLIP
If you’re in the market for an especially silly gift for someone fashion obsessed - here it is. A gold Prada hair claw, that SCREAMS Prada. This is a good bang for your buck gift. Prada, $595
CHARVET SLIPPERS
Technically, these are men’s, but online, men have the better colors (I also love the BRIGHT red). This is the exact definition of thing you want but would never buy yourself - the most luxuriously soft suede house slippers in a surprising color - even better, they come wrapped up in this gorgeous suede pouch, which is arguably better than the slippers themselves. Charvet, $415
PERFECT TAKE-EVERYWHERE BAG
The things I love about this bag are many - interesting color, classic shape, luxurious construction, not over-exposed, not overly-branded, anonymous, elegant, customizable (you can add your initials embossed in gold on the back), and at $450, a sharp price point. Sezane, $450
VINTAGE GUCCI PERFUME CAPSULE NECKLACE
My question here, is - is there a little stick inside the capsule for perfume? Is it a ~wink, wink~ “perfume necklace”? I don’t really care, it’s so cool, looks so great on, and is so recognizably vintage Gucci - you or they or whomever will be delighted to get this as a gift. Vintage Gucci, $422
BOTTEGABOTTEGABOTTEGA
No fashion gal is immune to the appeal of Bottega! This keychain makes an ultra satisfying little tidbit of a gift - again, the kind of thing you desperately want but would never in a million years buy yourself - but honestly if you’re so inclined….this shoulder bag is one of the things that that live inside my heart. It is….gorgeous. Bottega Veneta keychain, $390, and shoulder bag, $3,100
A VERY ELITE RED LIPSTICK
I can think of few things more delightful, more ridiculous to receive than a bright red Hermés lipstick. It’s an ideal hue, beyond beautiful packaging, and just the right amount of inconspicuous to make it a thrilling gift for basically anyone. Hermés, $75
AN INEXPENSIVE BUT SNOBBY NECKLACE
Rachel Comey is one of those deeply cool cult-following brands that is so good and so specific in terms of who they let in to their universe, that to be honest, I’m intimidated by it. The definition of an IYKYK brand. Which doesn’t stop me from wanting to be part of it. I love this necklace because it’s very sweet and girly (a heart, duh) but also so cool - the elastic cord is special, the metal slider is even cooler. Regardless of whether her style is minimalist, Park Slope mom, girly girl, I don’t know what else, wranglers and sweatshirts? She will like this. And! From one of my new favorite (from a distance) small specialty stores, Lewisburg Surf Shop. Rachel Comey, $150
FASHION GAL REQUIRED READING
A must! Fifty years of W mag - the most creative and wild shoots, stories, everything - this is the ultimate reference book, and something I would LOVE to receive. And also, from the small specialty store that truly has my heart - ByGeorge. Swoon! W Magazine: Fifty Years Fifty Stories, $75
A TRUE WARDROBE STAPLE
Is this sweater groundbreaking? No. Is it the be-all, end-all of luxury knitwear? No. But that’s what makes it so great - it’s a well made, totally utilitarian thing that the recipient will wear countless times for countless years. It’s the classic J.Crew cotton knit turtleneck in navy, and it’s straight out of the vintage J.Crew fan accounts. It goes with everything, is machine washable, and is classic and practical in a way that only adds to its street cred. It’s a must-have in my book (that said, I wear the men’s crewneck version because I live in LA and it’s not so cold here - I’m wearing it as I write this). J.Crew, $70
DAVID MALLETT X SUZANNE SYZ HAIR PIN
With any luck, this is what I will be getting for xmas. A genius hair pin designed as a safety pin in plated 18k gold. My hair is short still, so I’ll take the small. David Mallett x Suzanne Syz, ~$130
PERFECT HUGGIES
Truly, the perfect huggies. More designed than most that you see out there, and with the most gorgeous gold color - the alloy was specially blended for Sherman Field. I have these in the triple link (I’m wearing them right now), but I want a pair of doubles, which are narrower, for everyday. These are also very, very IYKYK. Sherman Field, $1,740
FASHIONY SNEAKER COLLAB
Remember what I said last week about shoes not being real gifts? That doesn’t apply if the shoe in question is V fancy collab like Loewe x On Running. I have these in white and they are so comfortable, and also so cool - I do honestly prefer the green, but the white makes more sense with my wardrobe. Again, these are an IYKYK gift that is both fancy and extremely useful and practical. A real winner. Loewe x On, $490
I’ll be back with more ideas on Saturday! (Probably…)
x
Laurel
Thanks, I've been looking for a basic red sweater. They're shockingly hard to find when red is supposedly the color of the season!
