My eyeballs are rolling out of my own head as I write this, again, about aging and knowing yourself but! If there’s one thing I do know about myself as I get older, it’s that I am a pants gal. Pants make up, like, 40% of my entire wardrobe. I have more pants than anything else. That’s me! That’s my style! BUT! The skirts I do have are so fun and so cute and they’re just languishing in my closet, thus came my challenge to style my fun skirts in a way that could work for a holiday party (of which I plan to go to….maybe two? As
said recently, I’m paraphrasing, “you won’t go to as many holiday parties as you think you will,” the gist being - you don’t need to shop for party season. You probably already have the things. But these things are tricky things - they’re mega skirts, or, you know - not basics. I love special pieces like this, but it irks me when I wear them and people are like ~wOaH~. It makes me feel like the skirt is wearing me. So then it goes back to the statement pants issue - contextualize them without dumbing it down or trying to hide the novelty. And it all comes down to textures. So these silly skirts are things I already have, worn in ways that are low, medium, and maximum festive. And I will say, since these are all things I have in my wardrobe and wear all the time, most of them aren’t shoppable (some are) but shopping isn’t really the point here. The point is showing you how to do it, and how I thought through each outfit, though there are some links. Shop first in your closet!
