Crowdsourced Shopping: Bikinis that won't show your buttcheeks, mini dresses, little fashion pick me ups & more!
We’re back! With another round of crowd sourced shopping. One thing I always find interesting about these is that most of you are looking for hyper-specific things, but not out of the box things. Like, socks within very narrow parameters, or diamond necklaces under a certain price point. It kind of reinforces my idea that most of us want the kinds of things you can wear forever, not season-specific, trend-specific things. Or maybe it’s because I’m asking a pretty self-selecting group, who more or less already aligns with my shopping MO.
Next week though, I’m going to approach trends. Just for fun! Just to see.
But for now - perfect versions of the things you all told me you wanted.
Button Up Vests
This is definitely a trend, but the item itself is so classic, and as yee shall see, there are a bunch of ways to wear them.
1. A very simple, very classic iteration, this would look great with denim or a big full skirt, but also has coordinating trousers you could pair it with. Mango, $70
2. I love the British-ness of this one, it’s nice and long, and kind of mensy, which I also love. And! It’s currently on sale at 70% off. Aya Muse, $169
3. This one has a bit of a casual vibe - the texture on the fabric is kind of earthy. It’s part of a set with a pair of shorts, which is very pat in my opinion, but cute nonetheless. The shorts alone are very cute. Staud, $209
4. Ok, this one does not have buttons, it has ties, which I think is a very nice evolution on this whole vest idea. I love this one from Aussie brand Matin. Matin, $225
5. Here’s a sexier version, from another fun Aussie brand, Sir. This has a single button, and is long, long, with a deep V, and would be nice over a mini skirt, or tomboy-ish white denim. Sir, $460
6. I would consider this the gold standard in terms of button down vests, but it’s also priced as such. It is so beautiful, so exquisitely made, the fit in incredible, it’s infinitely flattering, I could go on and on, but essentially, if you can spend $500 on a top, this is a good place to do just that. Attersee, $495
Bikini Bottoms That Don’t Show Your Ass When You Bend Over
Funny-ish story. One year, I was going with my now husband to visit his family in Florida. “I’ll be modest at the pool!” I thought. So I packed a one piece that I had never actually tried on. When I did try it on, not only did it creep all the way up my ass, but it crept all the way up my front as well. Modest, it was not! Because everyone’s torsos are so different (and asses too) I’m going to focus on bikinis here.
1. Remember in the late 90s when high-rise boy short swimsuits were the thing? This reminds me of that - in a very fun way. And, they’ll keep your ass in, AND, they come in sizes up to XXL, AND they’re made from recycled materials. Gap bottoms, $25, top, $25
2. This is what I wear most days. I find the J.Crew string bottoms have excellent coverage, and when I bend over wearing them, my cheeks stay put. These come in sizes up to 3XL. J.Crew bottoms, $50, top, $60
3. I love that these are high waisted, and high leg. You get that leg lengthening on the sides, along with the full coverage. This set is also eco-friendly - it’s made of unused nylon. The top comes up to size 14 (DD) and bottoms in XXL. Vitamin A bottoms, $105, top, $110
4. This is so chiiiiiiic. It’s made from smocked material (recycled polyamide!) and is super minimal, very pretty - I love the mega thin straps on this one. I love this. Toteme bottoms, $150, top, $140
Mini Dresses That Aren’t Tight
I, too, love a mini shift dress. Here we go:
1. Ok, not exactly mod, this one has a nipped in waist, and a tie back. While sweet, I like how angular it is. It makes it a little less sweet. Cos, $120
2. This one has a very pretty and graceful looking ballet neck. Again, slightly nipped at the waist, but the prettiest little summer dress ever, in my opinion. I love little black sundresses (as you can probably see). Theory, $156
3. I really like the shape of this. Normally I don’t really go for floral prints, but there’s something about this one I really like. It’s pretty, but not girly. Posse, $249
4. What a pretty dress! Looks great for mega hot days, or summer dinners out. I like the open detailing on the sleeves and hem, but because it’s black, again, it keeps it from feeling too little girl or too prissy. It does have smocking in the back, which I don’t love, but everything else is just perfect. La Ligne, $295
5. And now - a long sleeved option. I’d probably wear this without the tie around the waist, and let it be loose and floaty. In the fall I’d wear it over leggings. Matteau, $400
Fancy Dresses That Cover Your Arms
I’ve gotten a lot of requests for wedding-appropriate dresses that aren’t spaghetti strap or strapless - and I totally get it. I don’t love showing my arms either. Here are some options.
1. Ok, this is a crazy picture of a really pretty dress. It’s kind of swingy and nice, and the material is lovely. This would be so nice with some tall, strappy gold heels, and a red lip. Sezane, $215
2. This is mesh, so you might want a little full coverage undie situation under it, but it’s so cool, and seems so comfortable. Eywasouls Malibu, $246
3. A very pretty, very sexy, very slinky long sleeved brown satin dress. Can’t go wrong here. Significant Other, $285
4. OOOOOOOoooooo I love this one. It’s knit on top, satin on bottom, and such a pretty color. I really love the drop waist on it. Simkhai, $525
5. I love this one because yes, you can definitely wear it to weddings, but then with chunky boots in the fall and a thin ribbed turtleneck under it - wear it all through the fall. There are very pretty crystal details along the neck. Paco Rabanne, $1,328
6. To me, this is the ultimate. I love the neckline, I love the structure of the skirt, it’s all just so prim. But then with heels and some strategic jewelry (gold button earrings) It’s so good. The Row, $1,290
One last one - there were a few requests for giant tote bags for moms to schlep all the mom shit. That one will live over at Your Mom! My other letter all about mom stuff and schlepping.
I love you! Your friend,
Laurel
Does anyone have the Attersee vest? Was wondering on the fit / styling? It’s so beautiful and I have been eyeing up for a long time now but not sure...
