It was a little over a year ago that I got sober, and just over a year since I wrote this. My life looks 180 degrees different than it did on the last morning after that last big night out, and, let’s say, 170 degrees away from when I last wrote that essay. Sobriety and giving up alcohol comes up a lot for me in my writing, because it’s a big part of my life.

Let me first say, there’s a big difference between someone who gets sober or is sober, and someone who simply doesn’t drink. I am the former. And let me say - whatever your reason is for giving it up, good for you, but if you, too are the former, or you suspect you MAY be the former, hi, it’s ok!

I like to write about this and talk about this because I wish someone else had written about it or talked about it with me - I would imagine I’d have gotten the help I needed sooner, and set off on the road to repair earlier, but now the ball is in my court to be that gal. I also know people like to read about this kind of thing, and there’s a fair amount of rubbernecking to see how bad someone who seemingly has their shit totally figured out really was behind closed doors. I get that too! I love a trainwreck as much (maybe more) as the next person.

So here’s my one year (and change) check in.
