Hi again, and reminder, again - if you’re seeing this on a Friday, it’s because you’re a paid subscriber (thank you!) and so you get an early preview + first dibs on things that sometimes sell out. This week - despite LA mornings still being quite cold, I am in summer mode mentally, and my summer shopping is DONE. I think. So, here are the best things I’ve gotten for summer (and can’t wait to wear).
MATTEAU TUNIC & J.CREW SHIRT
These are the kinds of things I will eat, sleep, and breathe in all summer. The Matteau tunic is so beautiful, the black stripes are slightly sheer, and the whole thing is cut so boxy that it barely skims your body. I love it with trousers, or full-ish skirts - or over a bikini top if I’m feeling fancy at the beach.
Meanwhile, this men’s J.Crew shirt is my all time favorite white shirt. I buy it in the classic cut and in size large so it’s super oversized. It’s really soft, currently 40% off, and gets better and better with wear. It ticks all boxes for the thing you’ll reach for and throw on every other day.
A BIG-GIRL BLACK ONE PIECE
After agonizing over black swimsuits for YEARS, I finally bit the bullet and just ordered this one from Eres. Yes, it’s expensive, but it is gorgeous - so simple, so well made, possibly the only one you’ll ever need to own. I love the delicate straps, and that there are no details or anything tricky about it. My asscheeks don’t hang out, nor do my boobs. It’s the best for a reason, and I live ten minutes from the beach so I needed something I’d feel great in.
ONE PERFECT BELT AND ONE SILLY BELT
Never underestimate the power of a great belt! I’m extremely picky about belts, but I love this one on the left from Déhanche (a brand I wasn’t familiar with until they offered to gift me a belt to try) because it is extremely simple, super soft, the color is neither too red nor too grey - just a rich, preppy, classic brown leather belt. It’s SO GOOD with khakis.
Meanwhile, I got this string belt from The Row earlier this year, but can’t stop wearing it with dresses and caftan-y things this summer. It’s ridiculous, and beautiful, and looks great with colors OR with black - even though its brown. It makes a surprisingly meaningful statement despite being just like a string of leather.
TWO TINTED SPF’S
It might seem unnecessary to have two different tinted SPF products in your weekly rotation - however, these are very different. The Iris & Romeo Weekend Skin is the one I’ve been using longest. It has SPF 50, plus Vitamin C, and it gives a little bit of sheer, dewy coverage. My skin looks so good with this on - I keep one in both of our cars, and in my favorite tote so I always have it on me.
The Ilia one, meanwhile, I think has been around a bit longer and has a HUGE cult following, but I just tried it and…yes, it’s great. It gives a bit more coverage, but goes on very easily, like an oil serum, and my face looked really even and smooth with it on. Not too shiny, either. It’s also packed with skincare ingredients, so over time it improves the quality of your skin, and doesn’t just slap on a band-aid, so to speak. Both of these are WINNERS. I’ve tried so much stuff, so many tinted SPFs, and hands down, these are the best. AND! They have real SPF (50 & 40 respectively).
THE BEST COS PANTS + THE ROW FISHERMAN SANDALS
I wrote about these pants from Cos a few weeks ago, and they sold out pretty quickly - they’re back in stock, and they’re still my favorite trousers of all time (even better than some of the ridiculous designer ones I have). I love them so much, I bought an extra pair - the fit is just perfect. And I’ve been wearing them nonstop with these fisherman sandals from The Row. The sandals are insanely comfortable, and they give a bit of solidity to your outfit without looking like a “clunky shoe”. I get the “ugly shoe” thing, but these are not that - however they serve a similar purpose to offset any overt girlyness. I live in both of these pieces.
NEW PAJAMAS
Last but not least, I got these pajamas a few weeks ago as a gift from The Sleep Code, and they are slinky and cool to the touch. They feel better than being naked, I can’t describe it - I spend all day dreaming of when I can finally put them on. I never thought I’d like sleeping in long pants and long sleeves, but they’re just SO comfortable, and I sleep so well in them.
THIS PARTY SET FROM SIMON MILLER
Something about this set reminds me of Mireille Darc in Le Grand Blond avec Une Chaussure Noire. It’s not the same thing at all, but it has the same slinkyness, and the same cheek - from the front, it’s very simple and clean - from the side - helloooooooo! I also like wearing the top separate from the pants, and vice versa. It’s an infinity of outfits in just two pieces.
THAT’S IT! I LOVE YOU!
Your friend forever,
Laurel
OK I HAVE AN ADDICTION TO BOTH OF THESE SPFs! They somehow also feel like makeup. I get skin compliments every time I wear them.
Great list!! As always 💖. Question about the Cos pants, how is the sizing? Thank you!
