A VERY CUTE PAIR OF MARY JANES
Sometimes a very silly pair of shoes is just the thing for….anything. With a pair of stretchy kick flares! (The OG or a different pair I love from Theory with a papery texture - and are on sale) With a big ass floaty dress! With dark denim and a white tee! You get the idea. These are a pretty broken size run, and there’s an even cuter colorway (black and white with red piping!) that’s entirely sold out but I’m crossing my fingers for a restock. Charlotte Stone, $214
A REAL TREAT
Oooooooooooooooowheeeeeeeeeee lookie lookie! What a gorgie little charm! Made by one of my favorite jewelry designers, Christina Alexiou, I’m honestly not typically a heart gal, but I love Christina’s. They feel cool, rather than overly sweet, and I love the hand-hammered feeling. You can see more of her work here (I love this ring so much!), but this sweetie little pendant has been a nice addition to my charm necklace. Christina Alexiou, $1,650
A GIRLY, RETRO SKIRT
Earlier this week I did a letter about what to wear every day that was skirt and dress oriented. One category I didn’t really get to address was how to do a casual ladylike skirt. I’ve seen it done so successfully, but honestly, it would have been too much. Let me know if you’d like a letter about that - it will put me firmly out of my comfort zone, which is sometimes a good thing. Anyway, I love these full, swingy circle skirts - nothing makes you feel swishier or more on-vacation when you’re just running around your city doing mundane things. These are all excellent. The Hill House one I’d probably wear with a big oversized shirt with just one or two central buttons done and the rest of it hanging open. The others, with a fitted white tee - these are great great great if you’re curvier than I! Looks so sexy.
ANOTHER LADY SKIRT THAT HAS A DIFFERENT SHAPE
I have the pants version of this in red gingham and I love them so much, I wish I had gotten the navy skirt, too. High Sport, $960
A VERY LADY BAG
INSPIRED BY PALM ROYALE! My genius friend Celeste was one of the writers on the show and one of the producers, and I’ve been hearing so much about it and now I am SO THRILLED it’s finally here! I’m honestly digging this very 60s beachy lady vibe, especially with…..DARK JEANS AND A WHITE TEE! My answer to everything. Caterina Bertini, $200
MATTE BRONZER
Lately I’ve been overcome with the urge to get a spray tan. I want the tawny look of summer, especially contrasted against a crisp white polo and a slicked back bun. I honestly love bronzer, but I don’t love it when it has shimmer. This one is creamy, easy to blend, comes in four shades, and is blessedly matte. When I use it, I put it across my cheeks and the bridge of my nose, as well as on my eyelids and tiny bit on the end of my chin to look nicely toasty. Ilia, $34
CUTIE LITTLE COLORFUL BARRETTES
Technically these are for kids, but I love them. One at a time - so chic! Milk Teeth, $24/five
TA-DA! I’m on vacation with my kids this week, so this might be it until next Saturday, but let’s see!
Your friend,
Laurel
I would love a skirt styling tutorial, especially if it included advice for shoes that can comfortably be worn while walking several miles per day.
I'm including this in an April letter but let me put you on to the most dumb bitch-proof sunless tanner ever, Norvell Venetian Sunless Self Tanner. Apply it with a mitt. It dries right away and blends seamlessly. Sometimes when I'm lazy I just use it on my legs. I maintain it with the Jergens Natural Glow In-shower Lotion which is literally just lotion you slop on when your skin is wet and somehow gives you subtle, even color??? Then for the face, Body Drench QuickTan Bronzing Spray. Mist it lightly over your makeup on mid-face and it's the most natural-looking thing ever. These are my findings after tinkering since college. All on Amazon. Hair spray the inside of the collar of your white shirt and no bronzer will transfer when you sweat. LOVE JESS!
